Eating Healthy..the ripple effect

So I bought vegies and eliminated all sweets from my house.  The kids are fine with this because they love cereal and that for some reason is not a big temptation for me.  Once I found the snack food for them that I do not want life got so much easier.  But check this out.

I bought lettuce and tomatoes because I love salad and I don’t miss cheese on my sandwhiches when there is lettuce and tomato.  I make nachos with a few chips and lots of lettuce and tomatoes.  So the kids come home from school (they are 12, 11, 9 and 6) and they are ready to empty the cereal cabinet.  I was late with lunch and made a salad with a few blue nacho chips on nachos for my self.  I left the kitchen for them to fend for themselves thinking it was going to be cereal.  Next thing you know it I come into the kitchen and every kid is sitting there with a big huge salad for after school snack and loving it!  Oh yeah, and my youngest 6 year old had a sliced up apple also (my daughter helped out with this one).

I always said I was doing this to be able to be more active with my kids.  Ripple……I am also creating healthy eaters along the way.  They won’t be growing boys for ever and loving a good salad will be so important to them when they are older.

I headed out to the store and bought 4 heads of lettuce!

Hunger ….just a frame of mind

I woke up this morning feeling different.  In my past diet experience I would have called it hunger and cursed the feeling.  I have decided to look at this feeling in a different way.  After all, I ate my bran flakes for breakfast and that is plenty to survive.  This is not hunger, this is the feeling of my body going to work to burn off some of that excess weight.  What a great feeling.  It is like when you hire someone to update your kitchen and they finally show up to get started on the project.  I can hear an occasional rumble in there…oh that must be them taking down some of the excess fat.  I can’t wait to see the final product but until then I can put up with an occasional rumble.  What a great feeling.  Anticipation….its making me wait!

Snow day and no where to go!

Well we started out the day with ice everywhere.  A 2 hours delay turned into a snow day due to the ice storm.  I teach online and I had 4 kids running around like wild animals.  I sent them out to feed the animals but my littlest slipped on the ice.  We made it through the day (except for the shiner from the fall) but it is so hard to eat healthy when the 3 boys eat all day long!  On top of that I was going out to referee basketball tonight (something I do for exercise) and that was cancelled.   I have to say two weeks ago I would have  baked cookies with the kids but today we played math games instead.  One victory at a time!

Working mom want some support

I am a wife, a mother of 4, a full time teacher, a basketball referee and I am looking for help.  I have joined other groups in the past and often wondered if it worked because I spent the money and I am not going to waste my money.  Well in the past year as the kids have gotten older I just have not had the time to schedule the meetings for the help so I am trying this.  I have really been thinking lately that it was the support more than spending the money that helped me.  So here I am looking for support.  I want to keep up with my kids doing the things we love to do.  I have gained 30 pounds in the last year since I switched to teaching online.  Now I can go online when I have a moment of weakness.  I hope this works.  I feel so much older with this weight on my body.  I am
